A Beautiful Rainy Sunday at The Farm

Our Olive Trees

Our Olive Trees

The New Chicken Coop

The new Mobile Chicken Coop was finished several weeks ago. The chickens can leisurely move about inside or out. The ground cover is a lush blanket of oats, peas, fava beans and vetch, which the ladies (the chickens) eat faster than you can imagine. You can see in the backround picture of Omar holding one of the chickens, how green the ground is that they feed on. The coop can then be easily moved to the next spot. The acreage is fenced off, to keep the critters out. As you can see the southern side of the coop is made to absorb the sun and keep the temperature inside warm and toasty. The eggs need to be collected twice daily, seven days a week. The egg collector is serenaded by a symphony of chicken clucking.

The Green House

This Sunday I spend several hours up at the Farm taking pictures of all the activity that has been going on. The Green House is almost complete. It's huge! Seedlings inside have already been planted even while construction is still going on. The 600 gallon metal containers that the seedling are currently sitting on, were from the gardens at "Press Restaurant". These containers will be used later in an aquaponic project to raise catfish.

100 Baby Chicks

These were the baby chicks up at the farm last summer 2011, when they were only weeks old. They are all full grown now and producing delicious eggs daily.

The Farm Stand

May through October you can buy all this incredible produce grown locally from Rudd Farms at "The Farm Stand" located outside at Oakville Grocery on Hwy 29. Were open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am to 5:00pm and we have the best lemonade in town (even Ryan Seacrest said so) I love working at The Farm Stand, and work there every Friday. We look forward to meeting you, stop by and say hello!

The Farmer

"The Farmer" Omar Morgan began with Rudd Farms in March of 2011. Omar brings with him 10 years experience in Organic Farming. His experience is vast and extensive. From growing organic vegetables and fruits, to raising chickens, turkeys, ducks and also bee keeping. At one time being the largest free range egg producer in Napa County. Omar's General Contracting & Wine Cave Building background helped tremendously in starting Rudd Farms. Farming encompasses the skills of a Carpenter, Concrete Worker, Electrician, every skill imaginable. Erecting fences, building greenhouses to the gentle hand of sleeping with 100 baby chickens for the first 5 days to bond with them. Omar's motto is "Farm to table, and Then Back Again" which is "The Essence of Sustainability". More on that later. We are thrilled to have Omar aboard to lead Rudd Farms into the future of farming.
